The ladies strolled around the 7 bedroom house and saw the indoor pool, the nursery, the gym, and the master bedroom with its private balcony. They were reserved the rest of the evening. They watched Jeff pop in from his home office to socialize and check on a beaming Audrey. Audrey was having a boy and he was going to be named Jeff Chambers III. The shower ended around 8 so the ladies happily hugged Audrey and headed home. Except they were just a little salty, so they decided to have drinks and talk.
They went to one of the upscale restaurants along the Potomac river. They sat down in silence and quickly ordered 3 margaritas. They looked at each other and all of them knew suddenly that life was really passing them by.
“That bitch kept that whole thing on the down low.”
“Why though?” asked Jasmine.
“She didn’t want any bitch messing things up before he put a ring on it,” said Stacy.
“You’re saying she doesn’t trust us?” asked Jasmine.
“Us or any other thirsty bitch. If I had him, I wouldn’t let him out of my sight,” said Kim.
“Jasmine, what would you do if you had a fine looking, educated, rich brother with no kids?” asked Kim.
“I’d keep my fucking mouth shut,” said Stacy.
The drinks arrived and the women took large gulps to settle their anxiety and feelings of suddenly being left out of someone’s life. They’d been rolling with Audrey for over 7 years, and Stacy, her cousin since childhood and suddenly she was a married woman and soon to be mommy.
“I’m a little hurt, but I do understand,” said Jasmine.
“She was looking out for herself. I mean she’s my girl and all, but I do understand. The man is fine. And I love that house,” said Stacy.
“Me too, did you see the master bath with the Jacuzzi?” said Jasmine.
Kim smirked, “She also said that Jeff wants her to stay home with the baby.”
The women all rolled their eyes in envy. They were all accomplished, professional women with high level careers, but after age 35 the working girl luster had worn off and had devolved into the simple realization that they had jobs to keep their mortgage, car, and student loan payments current, and have a little left over for fashion and girl trips to tide them over until Mr. Right appeared. To be able to exchange bad employees, bad mangers, a bad commute, and office politics for a successful husband, children, and a nice home was looking really good.
“You know statistically, Audrey hit the lottery on this one. You know how hard it is to find a guy of that caliber,” said Jasmine.
“I know, I know, and that’s what’s pissing me off, I hate to say it,” said Kim.
"I'm tired of fucking losers and getting nothing in return,” said Stacy.
“I’m going white,” said Kim.
“They’re no different than niggas, remember the white guy that stole my credit card then had to nerve to stalk me?”
Kim sighed, “Yea, I remember.”
They sipped their drinks in silence and Kim looked up.
